City of Santa Fe hires Monica Maestas as finance director

The City of Santa Fe has brought on Monica Maestas to serve as its new finance director, filling a key role in the municipal administration. Maestas steps into the position with a substantial background in state-level financial management, bringing 18 years of experience from New Mexico state government.

Most recently, Maestas served as the chief financial officer for the state's Indian Affairs Department. Her career also includes work in other state agencies, where she handled budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting. City officials expressed confidence that her familiarity with public sector finance and state operations will help the city navigate its fiscal responsibilities.

The appointment comes as Santa Fe continues to address its budget planning and long-term financial strategies. Maestas will oversee the city's accounting, treasury, and budget divisions, reporting directly to the city manager. She replaces the previous finance director, who left the post earlier this year.

In a statement, city leadership highlighted Maestas's track record of managing complex financial systems and her commitment to transparency. Her first day on the job was set for early this week, and she is expected to work closely with department heads to ensure smooth financial operations across city government.
