With the June primary election results officially certified about a month ago, all ten Riverside City Council hopefuls have now turned in their mid-year campaign finance reports. The filings, covering activity through the end of June, reveal a significant financial gap between the top contenders and the rest of the field, setting the stage for a lopsided battle heading into the November runoff.

In the Ward 3 race, incumbent Councilmember John Smith holds a commanding lead over challenger Maria Garcia. Smith reported raising just over $120,000 since January, with roughly $95,000 still in the bank. Garcia, by contrast, brought in about $32,000 and has less than $10,000 cash on hand.
