Singapore is betting that its unique position as a tech bridge between the United States and China will be enough to hold onto its top finance professionals. With Hong Kong aggressively courting global talent, the city-state is now using its open access to cutting-edge artificial intelligence tools as a key selling point. The logic is simple: if a quantitative analyst or a wealth manager can work with the best AI models from both Silicon Valley and Beijing without restrictions, there is less reason to pack up and move.
The strategy appears to be gaining traction. Because Singapore maintains strong diplomatic and commercial ties with both superpowers, its firms can legally license and deploy the latest AI systems from American giants like OpenAI and Google, while also tapping into Chinese models that are often blocked elsewhere. This dual access is rare. In Hong Kong, US export controls and data privacy rules complicate the use of American AI. In mainland China, Western platforms are heavily restricted. Singapore sits in the middle, and that is proving to be a powerful draw.
Financial institutions in the city are already integrating these tools into everything from risk assessment to client portfolio management. The hope is that this technological edge will make Singapore not just a comfortable place to live, but the most intellectually stimulating place to work in Asian finance. For now, the plan seems to be working, but the race for talent remains tight.
